Red Sky Ranch, Fazio Course

2009 Event Recap

Under a canopy of brilliant blue sky and peppered with golden aspens, Red Sky Ranch was the perfect setting for Science on the Green on September 25. The challenging Norman Course allowed 21 teams to try their hand at golf at its finest. Science on the Green is one of the Science School’s signature annual fundraisers. And after four years, it continues to bring together friends, colleagues, supporters and guests from the Vail Valley, the Front Range and beyond, to play in this favorite of golf charity events, which celebrates camaraderie, rewarding and fun competition, the outdoors, and the seasonal glory of our mountain community.

New this year was a two tournament format, which allowed those teams wanting to play regulation golf to do so, while other teams played a Shamble format.

The day started with a hearty buffet brunch and a fun “Bull’s Eye” game at the practice range . Shortly after the noon shotgun start, Science School staff cheered on players from the “marmotmobile” golf cart and made available for a minimal purchase additional “marmots” (mulligans) and free libations, both readily welcomed by many teams.

Evening festivities featured a lively silent auction, complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks, followed by the presentation of prizes to the winning teams and individuals. Sincere thanks to: Vail Resorts and Red Sky Ranch for making this fundraiser possible; our Title Sponsor Colorado Capital Bank; Peregrine sponsors R .A . Nelson and FirstBank; Lynx Sponsors Alpine Bank and Big O Tires; Elk Sponsors Maximum Comfort Pool and Spa, American National Bank, Vail Sports Medicine Physical Therapy; and, Coyote Sponsors Insurance Associates of Estes and Millennium Bank.

Generous product sponsors also helped raise much needed funds to directly support natural science education. Sincere thanks to Adam’s Mountain Country Club, Alice Plain, Ascent Physical Therapy, Aspen Glen Golf Club, ATI Jets, Avon Liquors, The Bachelor Gulch Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Beaver Creek Golf Club, Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, Brett Gagnon, Cordillera Golf Club, CS Wine Distribution, East West Partners, Finis Boni, Golf Club at Eagle Ranch, Leadbetter Golf Academy, Lovely Nails, Mountain Beverage, Redlands Mesa Golf Club, Red Sky Ranch, Sonnenalp Golf Club, Tom Apple, Vail Beaver Creek Resort Properties, Vail Valley Foundation, and The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa.

Sincere thanks also to all players and generous donors who could not attend. We could not have done this without you!
