Programs are designed for youth entering the grades listed:
  • 1st through 2nd grade programs focus on the lives and histories of specific organisms and objects in the natural world.
  • 3rd through 4th grade programs consider broader, more advanced concepts in ecology.

During all programs, the Science School's team of educators shares grade-specific games, activities, artwork, and stories while encouraging cooperation and teamwork.

Based out of backcountry huts, our overnight courses allow young explorers, scientists, and stewards to experience the thrill of the backcountry and all it offers. Each course is designed to engage participants in a range of activities from map and compass orientation to ecology and field research.

Drop-off & Pick-up Location: Berry Creek Middle School in Edwards, unless otherwise noted.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

How To Register

  • Download and fill out registration and medical release forms at www.gorerange.org Mail to: GRNSS, Summer Youth Programs, P.O. Box 9469, Avon, CO 81620 Fax to: 970-827-9730
  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis
  • Registration deadlines: 14 days prior to start of any youth program
  • Full payment is due with registration unless requesting a scholarship (see Financial Aid below)

Reserve a space on a program

  • Call 970-827-9725 ext.10. to a reserve a space with a credit card for a maximum of 10 business days.
  • A non-refundable $25 deposit will be charged to your credit card. The balance of the program will be charged upon receipt of all registration materials.
  • You will not be guaranteed a space until full payment is received and all registration materials are on file.
  • Space is limited. Earthkeepers: 20 participants; Youth Science Camps: 13; Youth Overnight Camps: 12

Financial Aid
A limited number of scholarships are available based on financial need; scholarships rarely cover the entire cost of a program. Please contact GRNSS to request a scholarship application no less than 20 days prior to the start of a program: 970-827-9725 ext.10. Applications require a nonrefundable $25 deposit.

Course Confirmation
We will send you an email confirmation within 10 days of receipt of registration form, medical release and payment.

Refund & Cancellation Policies
We will refund your full payment less a $25 administrative fee if you cancel more than 14 days prior to the course date. No refunds for cancellations within 14 days of the course date. The Science School reserves the right to cancel a course. If we cancel a course, you will receive a full refund.

Model Release
A signed registration form grants GRNSS permission for reasonable and proper use of any photograph taken of registered participant, or any written statement made by registered participant, during a program.

Food & Lodging
Unless specified, no food or lodging is provided during courses. Please bring own lunch, snacks, drinks and water.

Transportation
GRNSS provides all transportation to and from field sites during youth program meeting times.

T-shirts
T-shirts are available for sale for $10. Please indicate your purchase preference on your registration form.

EAGLE EXPLORERS JUNIOR
NATURALIST PROGRAM

EAGLE EXPLORERS JUNIOR NATURALIST PROGRAM

In its second year, the Eagle Explorers Junior Naturalist program is a fun and engaging opportunity for kids ages 6 and up to get to know the Eagle River watershed. Spend a day, week, month or year becoming an official Eagle Explorer by picking up your Eagle Explorer Booklet at any of the program locations listed below. To earn your title and cool Eagle Explorer patch, simply complete the Eagle Explorer Booklet, attend two of the several programs offered weekly by Eagle Explorer partners, and return the completed booklet to any program location during regular business hours. The Eagle Explorers Junior Naturalist Program is a joint venture of Gore Range Natural Science School, the Vail Recreation District, the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Colorado Ski Museum and the White River National Forest. Participants are asked to pay a nominal administrative fee of $3.

Pick-up or return the Eagle Explorer Booklet at:

  • The Nature Discovery Center. Open daily, 10 am – 4:30 pm.

  • The Vail Nature Center. Open daily, 9 am – 5 pm.
